As an attendee at the Foundry Educational Foundation’s virtual College Industry Conference, Rebecca had the opportunity to apply for a general scholarship. She was awarded the AFS Southwestern Ohio Chapter Scholarship on November 17 during a special virtual presentation.

Rebecca was a member of Ohio State’s Foundry Club, which introduced her to the opportunities afforded to students by industry. She credits the metal casting industry for enriching the education of students, “They donated supplies for us to use in the foundry, hosted tours and networking events for us, and welcomed us to conferences.” Being able to attend major events like the CastExpo and the MAGMASoft University Experience expose MSE students like Rebecca to the field and help enhance industry readiness.

“After all our industry and academic partners have done for us, receiving this scholarship was really the cherry on top. I am honored to have been selected for the award, and I am grateful for all the Southwestern Ohio AFS donors who are able to help students like me. I also want to recognize Dr. Alan Luo for his continued support of his students and our club through the years.”

Rebecca Vilcheck is a native of Locust Grove, Virginia and graduates from Ohio State with her BS this semester.
