The Department of Materials Science and Engineering welcomes Jon Brown as an Assistant Professor of Practice. Brown started with the department on July 1. In this role, he manages curriculum development and delivery, especially in the introductory course and computational materials science courses, including online instruction and innovative methods to enhance learning and assessment.

Professor Brown is not new to Ohio State or the College of Engineering. The New Mexico native has worked at Ohio State since 2012 when he started as a post-doctoral researcher, then as a research scientist in Chemical Engineering. Jon then divided time between Nationwide Children's Hospital as a research scientist and the college's Engineering Education program where he taught Fundamentals of Engineering.

Teaching in Engineering Education provided me with a good sense of where our undergraduates are coming from and where to start from in the MSE intro course.

Jon has a B.S. and M.S. in Applied Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering, all from New Mexico Tech.

He is married to Lisa Hall, who works in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. The couple can frequently be seen around campus riding the family's electric cargo bike outfitted with a seat for their baby.

Welcome to the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Jon.
