Helena Van Swygenhoven heads the group "Computer Modelling and Experiments" at the Paul Scherrer Institute. The group has gained an international reputation for exploiting synergies between atomistic simulations and experiments on structural and mechanical properties of interface-dominated materials. Particular efforts include the development or acquisition of several computational tools to compute X-ray diffraction patterns, phonon density of states spectra, transmission electron microscope images, and positron lifetime spectra. Recently, the group developed an in-situ (during mechanical deformation) peak profile analysis using the Swiss Light Source. Group members Peter Derlet (PhD) and S. Van Petegem (PhD) will contribute expertise in modelling and experiments.
