William Nix is Lee Otterson Professor (Emeritus) of Engineering, Dept. Materials Science and Engineering, Stanford University. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and National Academy of Sciences, and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is a recipient of numerous research awards including the Mathewson Gold Medal (TMS-AIME), Mehl Medal (TMS-AIME), Gold Medal (ASM), and the Nadai Medal (ASME), and also recipient of numerous education awards, including the Bradley Stoughton Award (ASM) and Educator Award (AIME). He has advised over 70 doctoral students.
