Peter Gumbsch is head of the Institute for Reliability of Systems and Devices (IZBS) and director of the Fraunhofer Institute of Mechanics of Materials (IWM). The two institutes comprise about 200 people. He is manager of the European Research Training Network SizeDepEn, which includes expertise in three-dimensional dislocation dynamics simulations (D. Weygand), atomistic modeling, and dislocation-grain boundary interactions.
